How to read a food label
Beginning July 1, 2008 New York City residents are calorie counting at many fast food restaurants now where menu labels are instated as a requirement. In the same interest of nutritional awareness Germany is also requesting restaurants list nutrition content for fast food since the World Health Organization (WHO) found weight related illnesses epidemic for Germans, with over 20% of the population obese. Still, most people, when they drive-through McDonald’s or Wendy’s do not immediately register the 4-4-3-2 food groups and RDAs (Recommended Daily Allowances). The USDA (US Dept. of Agriculture) requires food labels list ingredients in descending order by weight, that food colorings are separately listed, while listing flavorings is optional.
